What is RSS ?

RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication ) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
Lots of sites will use a little orange button. The standard one looks like this: RSS Standar logo. Feed It's also common to see buttons that say RSS or XML. All these links and buttons mean the same thing: The site you're viewing has a feed available.

Why RSS? Benefits and Reasons for using RSS

RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving summaries of the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You can find out about updates to that site or sites without having to visit the site/s in your web browser. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter, so you will not have spam in your inbox !. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News and Amazon.com.

What do I need to get started ? How does it works ?

When you want to listen to music on your computer, you need Ituns, windows media player, quick time or other "player", well to read your feeds or news you will need a "player" as well. The great news is that most of them are FREE !!! you only have to choose the best for you (like choosing between hotmail, yahoo, gmail to read your mails).
The "player" for a feed is called a Feed Reader. This tool lets you subscribe to any feeds you want, checks automatically to see when they're updated, and then displays the updates for you as they arrive.
Internet Explorer 7 and Motzilla Firefox display the standar button: . Motzilla displays it on the browser bar when the site has RSS Feed, and Internet Explorer has this button next to lables on the right and it turns to orange color when the site has feeds.
